The College of Physical Education, Recreation and Sports
was created in 1997 from a department that solely served the physical
education requirements of undergraduate students. Today, it is the
only institute in the region that specializes in physical education
studies and human kinetics in both the graduate and undergraduate
programs.
Vision:
The COLLEGE OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION, RECREATION AND SPORTS (CPERS) shall be the Leader in the Field of Human Movement Sciences
and Physical Education, Sports and Recreation or Leisure Studies in the region and its neighboring countries.
Mission:
To educate and produce knowledgeable, well-trained and high level
professionals who can be leaders required by a competitive society.
It will continue to have as its inherent function of contributing to the revival, preservation and promotion of the Filipino cultural heritage in terms of games, sports and dances.
Objectives:
The College of Physical Education, Sports and Cultural Affairs (CPESCA) shall continue to:
- Provide the needed leadership in local, regional, national and international programs in human movement science, sports, physical educaton, dance and recreation.
- Develop curricular offerings to encompass recreation and eventually tourism, which would meet regional, national and global urgencies.
- Constantly deliver service activities in the field of human movement sciences, physical education, recreation, dance and fitness programming for the community.
- Continue to implement basic physical education programs of the university; major programs for sports scientists, physical educators, dance and recreation activity specialists.
- Provide a varsity program for highly-skilled students who wish to excel in sports and an intramural program for all students who wish to experience athletic competition.
- Conduct research in human movement science, physical education, sports, dance and recreation studies.
- Provide technical expertise to agencies needing help in the promotion of physical education, sports, dance and recreation programs.
- Conduct extension services in the field of physical education, sports, recreation and dance.
- Perform such other functions as may be directed by the President of the University and the Board of Regents.
GRADUATE PROGRAMS
- Master of Physical Education (non-thesis curriculum)
- Master of Science in Physical Education (with thesis curriculum)
- Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed) Distance Education
UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS:
Bachelor of Physical Education (BPE) - a four-year baccalaureate course for those interested to pursue a teaching career in physical education.
Diploma in Sports Coaching (DiSC) - a two-year non-degree course for those excelling in sports and fitness and wishes to be trainors, assistant coaches or coaches of identified sports.
POST-BACCALAUREATE COURSE:
Diploma Program in Physical Education (DiPE) - a program for Physical Education teachers in the field who are non-majors in physical education and wishes to be physical education majors.
